Editor's Note

Winter has brought a fresh wave of creativity to Ann Bryant Art Gallery Ku Gompo, and we are delighted to welcome visitors to two exceptional exhibitions that celebrate the remarkable talent of artists from across the Eastern Cape and beyond.

Opening on 24 July 2026, this year's Umtiza Arts Festival Open Call Exhibition showcases an exciting and diverse collection of contemporary artworks selected from artists who answered our annual call for entries. Alongside it, the ever-popular East London Fine Art Society's Anything But Painting Exhibition returns with its signature celebration of artistic innovation, featuring ceramics, sculpture, textiles, printmaking, glass, wood, mixed media, jewellery and much more. Together, these exhibitions offer a vibrant snapshot of the creativity flourishing in our region and will remain on view until 8 August 2026.

Whether you are a seasoned collector, an artist seeking inspiration, or simply looking for an enjoyable cultural outing, there is something for everyone to discover. Every visit supports our local creative community and provides an opportunity to connect with the stories, ideas and craftsmanship behind each artwork.

As always, our newsletter also highlights the exciting programme of events taking place during August at Ann Bryant Art Gallery Ku Gompo, as well as exhibitions, workshops and cultural happenings across Ku Gompo (East London) and the beautiful East Coast. We encourage you to explore, participate and celebrate the vibrant arts scene that continues to grow throughout our region.

We look forward to welcoming you to the gallery soon.
