From Miniatures to Masterpieces – October at Ann Bryant
From Miniatures to Masterpieces – October at Ann Bryant
October is certainly not going to be a quiet month at the gallery! We have a wonderful mix of exhibitions, societies, handmade treasures and academic talent coming through our doors, so there is plenty to look forward to.
We kick things off with the East London Fine Art Society Peep Show Exhibition, opening at 12 noon on Saturday, 10 October 2026. This much-loved exhibition is always a treat, with a wonderful selection of smaller artworks that make art collecting a little more accessible. There will also be snacks and refreshments available for a small donation, so come along, enjoy the exhibition and have a little something to eat and drink while you browse.
And, with Christmas creeping ever closer – whether we are ready for it or not! – there will be some wonderful handmade gift items available. Everyone loves something that is handmade and personal, and the good news is that these treasures are also very reasonably priced. It is never too early to start that Christmas shopping!
On Friday, 16 October, the East London Quilters Guild comes to the gallery, and this promises to be an exciting and fun-filled day. There will be a coffee shop on the premises, along with other societies taking part, including the Miniatures Guild and Woodturners Guild. It will be a great opportunity to see the skill, patience and creativity that goes into these wonderful crafts – and perhaps discover a new hobby along the way.
Then, on 30 October, we turn our attention to the next generation of academic and creative talent. A Fort Hare University graduate will be showcasing his Master’s degree dissertation in the Coach House. It is always good to see what the emerging intelligentsia are getting up to, and exhibitions such as this give us a glimpse into the ideas, research and creative thinking shaping the future.
There really is something for everyone this October – from fine art and tiny treasures to quilting, woodturning, miniatures and contemporary academic work.
So come and support our local artists, makers, societies and emerging talent. There is always something happening at Ann Bryant, and October is certainly proving to be no exception!
Warm regards, Leon Curator, Ann Bryant Art Gallery
