The Annual High Schools Art Exhibition will this year once again be on display at the Coach House of the Ann Bryant Art Gallery. Work will be hung on September 9th and 10th and judging will take place on September 11th. It will be on public display from September 13th to September 16th. This exhibition has been running for more than a generation and has allowed the youth of East London to showcase their artistic achievements and see what others have produced. It is fairly unique to our city and this year will include work from Sinikiwe High in Mdantsane as well as from schools in other parts of the Eastern Cape. It will feature work from Grade 8 through to Grade 12, and include entries from school subject leaner’s as well as from those for whom artistic output is an extramural activity. High School work varies from the charmingly naïve to the daring and reflects a life phase characterized by vigorous enterprise, intellectual curiosity and strong emotion. It is also interesting to observe the stages and struggles which go into achieving technical mastery.
The work of adults who make use of the Belgravia Art Centre will be on display from Monday 21 until Thursday 24th September.
Warm thanks are extended to the Ann Bryant Art Gallery which has made its venue available since the burning down of the art centre hall in Nov. 2004
