Diesel & Dust – Selected works by Obie Oberholzer
5th August – 12 September 2010
Ann Bryant Art Gallery
Mon – Fri 9 – 5 & Sat 9- 12
The Ann Bryant Art Gallery in association with the PHOTOGRAPHERS Gallery za is proud to announce a solo exhibition by the celebrated photographer, Obie Oberholzer.
Known as the father of colour photography in South Africa, Oberholzer’s work is acclaimed globally. His images are offbeat and colourful like the man himself.
Oberholzer is an avid traveller. He does not look for his subject he finds them unintentionally. His images tells stories about the somewhat strange, the odd, the trivial and the funny, with an overall critical gaze.
He points his lens to the obvious and the mundane and distils from them only the essential.
Oberholzer taught photography at Rhodes University until he retired in 2002. He is represented by the Photographers Gallery za in Cape Town. All his photographs are in colour, hand-printed by the photographer, and limited to editions of /5 only. His photographs measure 40 x 50 cm.
His Diesel & Dust exhibition is long awaited and will be the last of his analogue exhibitions. Oberholzer has finally dismantled his dark room after several decades. The exhibition is curated by Heidi Erdmann & Karen Grunwald.
